Faith to move a mountian

Matthew 17:20 NIV He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Today I would like to have enough faith to move a collarbone and regrow some tendons. This verse has always made me feel really small, so right now I pray that God would give me a good dose of Faith.

Revelations 22:2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

I finished this drawing two days before I separated my shoulder in a skateboarding accident. My sketching days have been put on hold for a few weeks. God is teaching me a-lot during this time. Specifically how to rest. I am not able to run in the mornings, pick my kids up, paint, or give my wife a hug with two hands. I am impatient, but I know that God will bless me during this time. I feel like he has given me a scripture from Ephesians that I would like to share w/ you.

A Prayer for the Ephesians 3:14-21
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life"
When I drew this I felt like God was reminding me that Jesus died for each of individually, he covered us individually. It was not impersonal, or just a collective statement. He suffered on the cross so that each of us could have the choice of everlasting life. He died specifically to cover my transgressions. God reminded me last night just how personal he is.

Tender shoot

Isaiah 53:2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He has no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

Jesus was very ordinary, some one you would pass on the street without noticing, yet God allowed him to shine. It was Gods presence in him that created the attraction. It really does make me look at people in a different way.

Mathew 2:7-12 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath: Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not think you can say to yourselves, we have Abraham as our father. I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

Sketch during Church this Sunday

Walking on Water

This piece started out as a sketch a few weeks ago and I felt like God was leading me to paint it. I went to the local art store bought a canvas and some acrylic paints paused for a moment to ask for God's inspiration and began. It has been a cool process as the paint brush and paint feel very different than my pencil and eraser.

After I drew this my wife said that it reminded her of Jonah's Prayer. I have posted it with the drawing. As I created this I kept seeing conflict, hope and resolve.

Jonah’s Prayer

I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord.

This weekend I spent some great time in fellowship with 8 amazing men of God in a rustic Cabin nestled high above the Kittitas valley. I sketched this late in the evening by the fire light while listening to Mike and Austin play worship music on their guitars. God is teaching me a-lot through my sketches and I hope to use this blog as a venue to share some of my experience.
